My Journey into Digital Security

Hi, my name is Tyler Henderson and I'm the Chief Digital Officer and Official Webmaster of the EMWV Security Team. Before I tell you about this website (which I designed myself from scratch), I think it's important that you understand my background and why I'm uniquely qualified for this position.

The Early Years (1996-2010)

I was born in 1996 to Dave Williams (my dad, who you might know as the Co-Founder and Head of Field Operations for EMWV Security) and Sandra Williams (née Henderson — yes, that Henderson). From an early age, I showed a natural aptitude for technology. By age seven, I had already figured out how to change the desktop wallpaper on the family computer (a Gateway 2000, for those curious about specs).

My uncle Bob (Bob Henderson, the founder of EMWV Security Team) always said I had "the gift." At family gatherings, I was often tasked with fixing the TV when it was on the wrong input or explaining why the printer wasn't working (it was always a cable issue).

The Formative Years (2010-2016)

In high school, I took a computer class where I learned HTML. I made my first website — a fan page for the Denver Broncos — using Microsoft FrontPage. My teacher, Mr. Garrison, said it was "adequate," which I took as high praise given his generally critical nature.

I also learned some JavaScript, which as you probably know, is one of the most important programming languages in the world. I can make alerts pop up and everything.

Higher Education (2016-2020)

After high school, I attended community college for two years where I took several computer-related courses. I learned about databases (SQL is my favorite), networks (I know what a router is), and cybersecurity (I always use strong passwords). I had to leave before finishing my degree due to a scheduling conflict with my job at Office Depot, but I gained invaluable real-world experience selling people the right cables for their printers.

The EMWV Opportunity (2022)

In 2022, my uncle Bob asked if I could "make one of those website things" for the newly-formed EMWV Security Team. I immediately said yes. This was the opportunity I had been waiting for — a chance to combine my passion for web development with my family legacy of community surveillance.

The original website (version 1.0) was made in Wix. It was okay, but I knew we needed something more professional. Something that would really showcase the caliber of organization we are. So I borrowed my mom's laptop and got to work on version 2.0, which you're looking at right now.

Technical Details of This Website

For those interested in the technical aspects (and I know you are), this website was built using:

  • Next.js (it's like React but better, I think)
  • CSS (I wrote all of it myself)
  • The color navy blue (hex code #1e3a5f — I picked it)
  • The font "Playfair Display" (it looks professional)
  • Lots of hard work and dedication

Total development time: approximately 47 hours, though some of that was spent watching YouTube tutorials and some was spent arguing with ChatGPT about why my code wasn't working (it was a missing semicolon).

Philosophy & Design Principles

When designing this website, I followed three core principles:

  1. Professionalism — This should look like a real security company website
  2. Usability — People should be able to find the Report Violation button easily
  3. Speed — It should load fast (I compressed all the images myself)

I also made sure to include proper "metadata" for search engines. If you Google "EMWV Security Team," this website should come up eventually (it might take a few weeks, that's normal).

Future Plans

I have many ideas for future enhancements to this website, including:

  • A member login portal (once I figure out authentication)
  • An interactive map of the neighborhood (with violation hot spots)
  • A mobile app (I'm learning React Native)
  • AI-powered violation detection (stretch goal)

In Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my journey to becoming the Chief Digital Officer of the EMWV Security Team. This website represents countless hours of work, learning, and dedication. Every pixel has been carefully considered. Every color chosen with purpose. Every button tested multiple times.

If you have any feedback about the website, please don't hesitate to contact me through the Contact page. I read all submissions (eventually) and take suggestions very seriously.

Respectfully submitted,
